“On Heron Time” with Rick Bunting
November 17, 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pmFree
“On Heron Time” presents observations and photographs taken last season at the Great Blue Heron rookery that has been monitored for several years by one of our favorite presenters, Rick Bunting. This very special program will take place on Friday, November 17th at 7:30pm at the Elm Park United Methodist Church, 401 Chestnut Street, Oneonta, NY.
The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For additional information, contact DOAS at firstname.lastname@example.org.
(This program is re-scheduled from it’s original date in January 2017.)
It has been my good fortune to have many close encounters with Great Blue Herons over the years. Most of them have occurred in Florida in the areas where the birds are acclimated to human presence. ( Unfortunately, in some instances like when these birds will stand alongside a fisherman waiting for cast offs, the majesty and dignity of these magnificent creatures is compromised. ) Although I have seen and heard some of the fledglings from “our” rookery, I have never had the opportunity to be up close and personal with one……..until yesterday. Tannar and I were slowly working our way along the edge of the swamp looking to photograph some different species of damselflies. When I looked up and suddenly realized we were within 30 feet of one striking it’s statuesque pose and keeping an eye on us.
