Raptor ID Resources

The raptors on the sign at the Franklin Mountain Hawkwatch show the most common plumage of each species. There are many variations depending on age, gender, and stage of molt. The best way to learn to identify birds is by putting in the hours observing them in flight. In addition, we encourage you to explore the wealth of resources from other raptor experts.
