Are you handy with a hammer and saw? DOAS is seeking bluebird nest boxes to provide to members and friends through our DOAS retail program as well as to use at selected DOAS locations as needed. Although first nests are already seeing activity this year, bluebirds will often breed multiple times per spring. We try to have nest boxes available each spring and throughout the year, but we have not had the manpower to do this for a while. If you would like to help with building Bluebird Nest Boxes, please let us know with an email to info@doas.us.
Building plans and instructions are linked HERE.
Materials listed below will produce three Bluebird Nest Boxes (the cost for these can be reimbursed upon request):
One 4″ wide, 1″ board 8′ long, plus one 6″ wide, 1″ board 8′ long will make 3 nest boxes using the directions provided above. Thin nails are also needed. Box nails, if still available would be perfect.
Use full 1″ thick Rough Lumber – available from sawmills.
For 3/4″ thick lumber or plywood, reduce width of sides by 1/2″.
