DOAS’ Franklin Mountain Hawk Watch contributes significantly to national data collection showing fall raptor  migration trends.

Since 1989, volunteers have maintained daily counting of migrants from August through December.  Because it has become difficult to continue this project with volunteers, this fund will be paying a hired counter starting in 2027.  Counters also provide education to visitors about the variety of raptors passing through our Franklin Mountain Hawk Watch.

This fund would also support minor structural and site improvements.

Long-term funding is needed to assure the effective operation of the hawk watch well into the future. The fund will also support major structural and site improvements. Current structures are aging and will likely need replacement in the next few years.
