Poem from a Hawkwatcher

The link below will take you to a poem written by Robert Bensen inspired by a visit to the hawkwatch in the Fall of 2018. It beautifully captures the feeling of that moment when the eagles arrive.

Golden Eagles over Franklin Mountain

The October day in 2018 I went up to the Franklin Mountain Hawkwatch not much was happening, but it turned out to be the record day–most of the action after I left.  Of the dozen GEs I saw, though, one was especially memorable, as was the day, as the poem will attest.
