Delaware-Otsego Audubon Society (DOAS) is hosting an Electric Vehicle (EV) Car Show on Saturday, May 22, 2021 from 10AM-2PM. The show will be held at the Damaschke Field parking lot, home of the Oneonta Outlaws, in Oneonta, and will feature EVs and their owners and more, with information on EV purchasing, ownership, and maintenance. The event is free and open to the public.
The Oneonta Outlaws (Event Site Sponsor) will be running food concessions throughout the event and will be featuring blends of ‘Birds and Beans – Certified Bird-Friendly Coffee’. Bags of this coffee (whole bean and ground) will be available for sale at the DOAS Exhibit table. The Otsego County Conservation Association (Event Partner) will be helping DOAS with on site safety at the event, assuring that there is proper spacing between all vehicles for a COVID safe event. They will also provide an exhibit with general environmental information including Clean Heating and Cooling programs that can help reduce home carbon emissions. Additionally, Friends of Rogers Environmental Center is hosting a raffle to win a 2020 Tesla Model 3, with tickets and more information available at their tent. Oneonta Ford will be on hand to show off the new 2021 Ford Mustang MACH E and to schedule test drives on this exciting new plugin vehicle now in the marketplace. NYSEG will also be on site to show off one of their Chevy Bolt EV Fleet Vehicles and share information about electric rate discounts for off-peak charging. Information at the event will also include materials from Charge NY and their new EVolve Program which is building out a series of new EV Charging stations throughout NY State. (NOTE: Grand opening in Oneonta’s location takes place on Tuesday, 5/18!)
From Susan O’Handley, DOAS Co-President, “We are excited to see this first-time event move forward. New NY State incentives for new vehicle purchases are set to go into effect at the end of June. We’ve seen reports that there may be additional funds for Federal rebates for new EVs as well as a rebate for used vehicles as well. Transition to EVs and mass adoption will be a great first step towards reducing our carbon emissions. Sales figures are strong and there is a great deal of growing interest in EVs, so this is a perfect fit for a public event. We hope to have an amazing turnout on Saturday!”
The EV Car Show is an opportunity to connect with others who are EV owners in the area, as well as to encourage non-EV owners to think about purchasing their own vehicle when it comes time to replace their existing autos. This event strives to emphasize sustainable, environmentally-conscious decisions. There is so much change in this industry right now – all are encouraged to come out and learn more! Last minute sponsors and additional registrants for the EV Car Show are welcome. Participation in this event will support DOAS’ efforts to promote more sustainable practices that contribute to a healthier local environment. Sponsors and owners can still register to participate at https://doas.us/electric-car-show-2021-registration/. This event has been made possible through support from National Audubon Society’s Audubon in Action program, Oneonta Outlaws, Otsego County Conservation Association, Charge NY, Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center and Oneonta Ford.
